On 16 November 1857, Sir Colin Campbell’s Relief Force captured the Secunderabagh and Shah Najaf Mosque, Lucknow. Sergeant S Hill distinguished himself in this action and, thereafter, in rescuing the wounded.Major J C Guise particularly distinguished himself the following day in the storming of the Mess House.

For conspicuous gallantry in action on the 16th and 17th of November, 1857, at Lucknow. Elected by the Officers of the Regiment.
