On 18 September 1932 Ahmed Muhammed Mirghany rescued three girls from drowning in the Nile near Khartoum.

Citation

 The KING has been graciously pleased to approve of the Award of the Medal of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire to the undermentioned:– For Gallantry. Mirghany Ahmed Mohammed. On September 18th, 1932, at the height of the Nile flood, and at a point where the stream is particularly dangerous even for the strongest swimmer, Mirghany Ahmed rescued three girls, the eldest fifteen years of age, from certain death by drowning
