For conspicuous gallantry at Chavanne (Aisne) on the 28th September, in bringing into cover on two occasions, under heavy fire, wounded men who were lying exposed in the open.

Supplement to The London Gazette of 8 December 1914. 9 December 1914, Numb. 29001, p. 10533, which incorrectly appears in the Gazette as 1053. (The Citation incorrectly has ‘Chavanne’ rather than Chavonne).
